Ms. Deutsch is an experienced litigation and trial attorney. Between 1985 and 1988, while working for an established San Diego litigation firm, she represented the plaintiff in a $44 million federal anti-trust suit filed in Federal Court in Anchorage, Alaska. Between 1988 and 1991, she represented national insurance carriers in multi-million dollar insurance coverage disputes, which involved several lengthy jury trials. In 1991, she represented the plaintiff in connection with an insurance bad faith claim, in which the court rendered a $1.9 million verdict in favor of her client. In 1991, Ms. Deutsch joined the community association law firm of Epsten & Grinnell as a senior litigation attorney. She handled numerous construction defect litigation matters, and served as lead counsel for plaintiffs in several jury trials. Ms. Deutsch also handled innumerable litigation matters involving homeowners associations, including governing documents enforcement litigation, assessment collections, judicial foreclosures, and defending Boards of Directors in a broad range of claims including alleged discrimination, labor code violations, personal injury and property damage, and breach of fiduciary duty. Since establishing her own practice in January, 1999, Ms. Deutsch continues to represent homeowners associations, and has expanded her practice to include representation of individual association homeowners and property management companies, as well as general real estate and business matters. Ms. Deutsch is an active member of the California Association of Community Managers, and the San Diego and Greater Inland Empire chapters of the Community Associations Institute. KIM L. TAYLOR received a dual major B.S. in Earth Science and Environmental Studies and a minor in Geography from Western Michigan University in 1985. She subsequently completed a two-year professional degree program in Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation from the University of California, Irvine. Ms. Taylor graduated from the University of Denver, College of Law with a focus in environmental law and a scholastic excellence award in hazardous waste law. Ms. Taylor has an extensive technical and legal background. Prior to becoming an attorney, she worked for 15 years as an Environmental Consultant/Geologist. She began her legal career as an intern for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Enforcement Investigation Center. She later became a law clerk at the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, where she assisted the cleanup contractor’s Environmental Attorney with matters related to regulatory compliance and cleanup of a former nuclear weapons production facility/Superfund site contaminated with various radioactive and hazardous materials. Ms. Taylor’s practice areas include litigation, real estate and environmental law, with a focus on cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties; cost recovery under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA); various state environmental and hazardous waste laws; and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Ms. Taylor advises clients regarding regulatory compliance and commercial real estate transactions. She has provided litigation support for cases involving homeowners associations, contractor disputes, and resource conservation and water rights issues. In addition, she has assisted clients with investigation and remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, asbestos, lead based paint and toxic mold. She has obtained regulatory closure for leaking underground storage tank sites in Alaska, California, Colorado, and Wyoming through negotiations with regulators. Ms. Taylor is a member of the environmental sections of the American Bar Association, the California State Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association. She is an active member of the San Diego Environmental Professionals Organization and is a board member of the San Diego Women’s Environmental Council. Ms. Taylor has been a Senior Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) since 1992 and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.
